Dances of Universal Peace
July 25 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Come join us for Dances of Universal Peace, dances are simple, prayerful movements that are taught at the beginning of each song, so no experience necessary, all are welcome!
Dances of Universal Peace (DUP for short) is a contemporary community
dance practice that aims to spread personal and social peace.
It contains dances from different local cultures of the world,
ancient cultures and traditions, religions and beliefs.
Samuel Lewis planted the seeds of Universal Dances of Peace in California in
the 1960s. Afterwards, the DUP Network spread to the USA, Latin America and
Europe. The first DUP training camp in Turkiye was held in 2018.
Currently, dance circles are being held in almost 50 countries and over 1200
dance leaders from 30 countries worldwide are actively sharing dances.
In a typical dance gathering, one or more dance leaders guide the dance circle
accompanied by live music. The dance leader tells the story, teaches the
melody and movements of the dance, and directs the music and the flow.
There are thousands of songs and dances adapted or compiled from world
cultures in the DUP dance database. Powerful mantras, deep prayers and
inspiring chants in the DUP repertoire foster feelings of harmony, unity and
peace within the community. The main themes are love, trust and compassion towards nature, the universe and life.
“The Dances of Universal Peace and Walking Concentrations are spiritual practice in motion. Drawing on the sacred phrases, scripture, and poetry of the many spiritual traditions of the earth, the Dances blend chant, live music and evocative movement into a living experience of unity, peace and integration. This taste of our true nature – as Universal Peace – opens to the possibility of a deep spiritual revolution within the person”. ~ Dances of Universal Peace International
Dances will start at 6:30 pm. Feel free to come a bit early to settle in so we can begin dancing at 6:30 pm. No cost to attend, donations accepted at the door.
