SUMMARY:On Healing Ground - Harmony Woods Communal Grief Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this powerful communal grief retreat. \nSaturday 9am – 9pm \nSunday 9am – 5pm \nWe carry grief of all kinds. Joy and sorrow are a main staple of our daily life. And this ancient wisdom teaches us that our culture is sick not because we grieve too much\, but because we don’t grieve enough. We aren’t given permission to fully grieve. \nMany of us feel alone and isolated in our grief.  Western cultures tend to have a “don’t ask for help” and a “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” mentality. It is forced down and shamed until it turns into a personal pathology rather than collectively held and honored. We are not meant to grieve alone! \nWhen grief is not processed\, it often gets passed down through the generations and can come out in harmful ways. But we can choose differently.  We can reclaim our natural ability to heal alongside one another. \nGrief is not something to get over but to be embraced and cherished for the love that it is. It is ok to hurt\, we just need each other to collectively hold that hurt and support one another to carry what we cannot carry alone. Sometimes we can get stagnate and drown in our grief because we aren’t given a way and a community to allow it to move through us. \nThis medicine helps us regain our interconnectivity. This being human is no easy task and part of our challenge in life is learning to be more human. To celebrate the full range of our human experience and that means our deep sorrow. But touching on that agony is often scary and why we need companions to journey with us through the tunnel of grief until we come out the other side. \nThe ritual includes talking circles\, singing and drumming\, poetry\, movement\, practice in sacred listening\, witnessing and being witnessed\, ceremony\, sharing food and quiet time. The heart of the retreat is a ceremony inspired by Sobonfu Some and shared by Pacific Healing Circles. \n\n\n\nThe work is also inspired by the Five Gates of Grief from Francis Weller: \n\nEverything we love we will lose\,\nthe places that have not known love\,\nthe sorrows of the world\,\nthe things we cannot even name that we ache for\, and\nintergenerational or ancestral grief.\n\n$300 for the weekend (food not included) \n Payment plans\, scholarships\, and work trades are available upon request. \nQuestions or to be added to the waitlist: Please email harmonywoodsretreat@gmail.com \n\n\n\n\n\n\nFacilitator: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLaurence Cole is a well-known song leader and respected elder with long involvement in grief work\, men’s work\, and many other aspects of healing and enlivening the human spirit. He has been co-facilitating Grief Retreats since 2009 and was blessed to have experienced this ritual with Sobonfu Some. In addition\, he has been offering a ritual called “Grief Song\,” at singing events for the past 7 years. \nAssisted by Kirsten Angell  and Christi Ortiz \n \nAfter working in the fields of conservation\, urban planning\, sustainability and socio-political activism\, Kirsten eventually hit a wall of despair. The desire to be present for the raising up of her three children\, and now a grandchild\, in a world that appears to be unraveling\, forced her to look outside of the usual therapeutic practices to heal and reconnect with her purpose.  \nHer practice is to support others in their healing by combining group work and the healing modalities that she has found helpful in her own journey. She has studied the art of grief tending with Therese Chauvet and Laurence Cole\, ancestral healing practices and the reclamation of animistic perspectives with Daniel Foor\, Joanna Macy’s Work That Reconnects\, as well as multiple other modalities with teachers that have given her a sense of renewed perspective\, purpose and resilience in the face of whatever may come. A true proponent of The Great Turning\, Kirsten is humbly and continually working towards developing her own level of awareness and is actively supporting the collective shift away from the colonialist and separationist mindset and into a deeper\, more reciprocal relationship to Life and Love. \n \nChristi Ortiz is a licensed therapist\, spiritual director\, author\, and founder of Harmony Woods Retreat Center. She has been providing grief support individually and in groups for the past 18 years. She understands that all people hold grief of some kind\, and she has seen these grief retreats be one of the most powerful healing experiences for people even if they have done extensive grief work or therapy in the past. She is passionate about making these healing retreats more accessible to all people!

SUMMARY:Writing to Wisdom\, Writing to Wonder: A Weekend Memoir Workshop
DESCRIPTION: Saturday\, July 29 & Sunday July 30\, Harmony Woods\, 10am to 4pm. \n  \n“We are are…on our own individual\, lonely\, heroic journey to discover who we are\, where we are\, and what our relationship is to this body\, this life\, and this mystery in which we find ourselves.” \nPat Schneider\, How the Light Gets In \n  \nJust as our hearts want to cultivate wisdom\, our writing selves aim to speak what matters most. Ironically\, words can lead us to silence\, a greater listening to the dignity of our whole selves and a brave leaping into the unknown. In that listening and receptivity\, we write until we surprise ourselves and honor what comes forth. Accessing a different part of our brain than our daily tasks\, writing can be a rich arena to explore insight\, reflection\, and the cultivation of wisdom. \nAutobiography and memoir are different creatures: autobiography is the story of a life (the rich and famous get to write them); memoir is a story from a life\, a major theme from the journey. There is much to celebrate in a life’s journey\, and there is also inevitable loss. \nOur forum will be a place for the intimacy of both kinds of stories—the joys and the wounds—respecting the privacy of individuals while supporting one another. \n  \nTogether\, we’ll: \n* Use various methods to bring forth a multitude of ideas\, themes\, and stories from your life and history to mine for writing for this class and in the future. \n*Listen and leap! Writing is an act of discovery\, not repetition. \n*Discern—separating the gems from the noise. Writing reveals the struggle between the personal and the universal. \n*Crafting our words to make them meaningfully connect to others. \n  \nAbout Sarah \nWith a BA in religious studies and an MFA in poetry\, Sarah’s words have been published in various literary journals and anthologies; she is the author of six books on world wisdom traditions published by Skinner House Press; and she has written feature articles for Tricycle Magazine (“When my Son Became a Monk\,” “Lost at Sea\,” and “Minefulness: A Case Study.” Her forthcoming memoir\, Set Adrift: My Family’s Disappearance in the Bermuda Triangle\, will be released in June of 2023 by 55 Fathoms Press. Along with reading\, writing\, meditating\, and being sporty outdoors\, Sarah’s favorite activity is to guide writers towards making their words matter—both to themselves and to others. \n \nWhat You’ll Need: \nIt takes honesty and courage to try and wrestle the truth of experience onto the page. Please bring a writing pad and pen\, and\, if you have one\, a laptop computer is helpful. \nPlease bring a pot-luck lunch item to share. In your consideration of what to bring\, be aware that we may be with some people who are vegetarians and/or are gluten-free. \nPS: The discipline of writing requires momentum\, and a writing community is the best way to spur each other on. Maybe\, just maybe\, there’ll be a writing group birthed from our time together. \nLIMIT of 15 participants   $100 for the weekend \n  \n\n\nWriting to Wisdom\, Writing to Wonder: A Weekend Memoir Workshop \n$100.00 \nBuy now \n\n\n

SUMMARY:Art and Yoga Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Germinating Beauty\, Creativity and Care for All \nArt and yoga are both powerful tools that provide opportunities to connect to self and all that is and to envision and create things we wish to manifest in the world. In this 3-day retreat we will connect deeply to the cycles and regenerative processes in nature and locate those aspects in ourselves. We’ll look to seed pods for inspiration in both our fiber based art project and our yoga and meditation sessions. \nSeed pods act as protective places for seeds to gain nourishment and germinate new life. Your pod will house and protect something you wish to germinate and manifest in yourself and the world. We will honor and nurture this process along with our bodies and minds through guided meditation and gentle yoga. \nThis is a wet felting project appropriate for both those who have worked with fiber for years or are brand new to the art form. \nThe Germinating Beauty Creativity and Care for All Retreat includes: \n\n4 Yoga/Meditation Sessions\n10 hours of Art Instruction\n2 Dinners\, 2 Breakfasts\, afternoon snacks and all day coffee and tea. This is a place where your tears and heart-ache are welcome. The retreat includes talking circles\, singing\, poetry\, movement\, practice in sacred listening\, witnessing and being witnessed\, ceremony\, sharing food and quiet time in the woods. The heart of the retreat is a ceremony inspired by Sobonfu Some. \nOur work is also inspired by the Five Gates of Grief from Francis Weller: \n\nEverything we love we will lose\,\nthe places that have not known love\,\nthe sorrows of the world\,\nthe things we cannot even name that we ache for\, and\nintergenerational or ancestral grief.\n\nWe will lean in together and trust\, surrender and open to vulnerability as we remember how to grieve in community. \nSpiritual Framework \nThe spiritual framework for this ritual includes time-honored and earth based modalities\, utilizing the power of drumming and chanting\, the belief that the natural world is a rich place of inter-connection with “all our relations\,” and the importance of working with the unseen realms\, including our ancestors. \nEXCHANGE:  Ritual Fee is $250 \nWe don’t believe in barriers to healing spaces.  The cost of this ritual should not be a barrier to you if this space is calling to your soul.  That being said\, the cost of this ritual is so that facilitators and organizers may be resourced.  We are committed to making this work accessible to a wide variety of communities; especially cash poor and working class people who are on the front lines of social movements and community work.  Limited sliding scale slots and two work trade options are available. \nRefund Policy: \n\nA full refund will be given if our COVID precautions do not feel stringent enough for you or if you feel sick at the time of the ritual.  (Please stay home)\nIf you cancel anytime before 1 week prior to the retreat for other reasons\, we retain $50 as a “handling fee.”\nIf you cancel less than a week prior to the retreat\, we cannot guarantee a refund due to the low likelihood of someone from the waitlist being able to fill your spot.  If we are able to fill your spot\, we will offer a 50% refund minus the $50 handling fee.  This policy helps to hold us all accountable and creates some protection for us as the facilitators and organizers.\n\nCOVID Protocol: \nWe are holding this ritual indoors and are in the process of considering what precautions we will take so this event feels safe-enough in this time of pandemic.  Stay tuned for more details as we sort through the latest recommendations and make our plan. \n13 participants minimum and 28 participants max \nOnce gathered\, each participant will be at choice as to what feels good to them in terms of masking\, distancing\, contact\, etc.  Beyond testing 24 hours prior to the event\, we will not be making specific requests of participants.  If you are showing symptoms on the days of the ritual\, please stay home. \nTo Register: click here.  \nQuestions? Please email Mary (pacifichealingcircles@gmail.com). \n\n\n\n\n\n\nFacilitators: \nLaurence Cole and Mary Hart have been involved in grief tending in the Pacific Northwest since 2002. Each brings unique gifts to the group.   \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLaurence Cole is a well-known song leader and respected elder with long involvement in grief work\, men’s work\, and many other aspects of healing and enlivening the human spirit. He has been co-facilitating Grief Retreats since 2009 and was blessed to have experienced this ritual with Sobonfu Some. In addition\, he has been offering a ritual called “Grief Song\,” at singing events for the past 5 years. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nMary Hart brings her commitment to authenticity\, vulnerability and transformation to the team. She is trained in Internal Family Systems therapy\, Hakomi therapy\, workshop facilitation\, The Wheel of Consent and is a personal coach.  She has participated in many healing rituals over the years. In 2014\, she was introduced to Grief Ritual and began mentoring with Therese Chavret\, Tere Carraza and Laurence Cole.  Since then\, she has helped to create and facilitate many healing rituals. SUMMARY:Recollective Awareness Meditation Retreat
DESCRIPTION:A day to learn and practice the recollective awareness approach to meditation. A day to be in the company of other meditators. \n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\n\nMary Webster will lead a one-day nonresidential retreat to explore the practice of recollective awareness meditation. This one-day retreat is meant to help develop greater awareness of your inner world through meditation\, reflection and discussion. Therefore\, this will be a silent retreat to maximize the benefits of our time together. \nThe retreat will be using the Recollective Awareness (RA) approach to meditation. This approach is based in Theravada Buddhism\, a practice which develops both peacefulness and insight. The RA approach emphasizes bringing one’s meditation back to mind for exploration through journaling\, reporting to the teacher and general discussion with others. We will be discovering the Dharma in various ways and seeing it in our life situations. \nThis retreat will offer ample time for meditation and journaling\, a time for reporting on one’s meditation (optional)\, a Dharma talk and time for discussion. Basic instructions will be given at the beginning of the retreat. \n\nThis retreat is suitable for anyone regardless of years of practice.\nIn order to make the most of our time together\, the lunch period will be shortened to 30 minutes.\n\nPlease join us for a day of exploration in a community of like-minded meditators. \nThings to bring: \n\na journal\na lunch (refrigerator space is available)\nsocks or slippers. Harmony Woods is a shoe-free facility\nmeditation cushion or mat. Some spare cushions are available. Some mugs are available if you forget.\n\nFor further Reading on Recollective Awareness please visit this link: https://medium.com/@jasonsiff/recollective-awareness-and-mindfulness-4fa4ac4a9648 \nMary Webster\nMary Webster worked as an independent nurse practitioner in mental health from the time of receiving her M.A. in nursing in1975 until her retirement from a clinical teaching position at Washington State University in 2012. \nShe began meditating with Jason Siff in 1995\, attending several Recollective Awareness meditation retreats before entering the Skillful Meditation Project teacher training in 2001. She gradually increased her teaching responsibilities and by the time she finished the teacher-training program in 2008\, she was already co-teaching 10-day retreats\, leading workshops\, giving public talks\, and working closely with regular students on their meditation practice. \nShe acted as the Resident Teacher for the Spokane Vipassana Meditation Community for over 15 years. During that time she held a weekly sitting group and offered opportunities for practice dependent on the community’s needs including one-day workshops\, residential retreats\, study groups and smaller reporting groups for those interested in a more dedicated practice. \nMary retired from her formal teaching activities in 2020 in order to focus on her own practice. During this time\, Mary visited Thai Forest monasteries\, pursued her interest in the contemplation of the elements\, open awareness and development of the liberating qualities of the mind: loving kindness\, compassion\, happiness for others and equanimity. \n\nRegister here: \nhttps://www.eventbrite.com/e/recollective-awareness-retreat-tickets-398012505117?aff=odeccpebemailcampaigns&utm_source=eventbrite&utm_medium=ebcampaigns&utm_campaign=9375469&utm_term=ctabutton&mipa=ABIdvVsrq3WO2PrQCha6LQjp2Ibt9HihflvFbGDfSp9vMVjfpWINeqcTihalNMAPBMYpFZsYDAnCY6uivejb7uzbq0phBiHSbrEoIuCuZnob2RNgkT-vB1AY9ot6_MCDZJF5pco1sYNd4zFtsfvAIJdCHvT9NMRscGKKqm_SWonOABH2Z_3om8fITChsLde_CZPFJ4rLqFLaA5xAk30HbnnigeDKAcAznVNTdC0PsO-Uxwn0Fg3qU3N9H_JhFSFFImrTg2N51DZi45BvwKNQykiMPSWc-gkQyA
